There are various ways to point a domain address to another domain or subdomain and one of them is by setting up a CNAME record. When you own a domain name and you have created a site through some online service which provides you with a service subdomain, you could easily link the two by creating a CNAME record for your-domain.com that redirects to subdomain.provider.com. What you will achieve by doing this is that www.your-domain.com will be in the Internet browser address bar while it opens the already mentioned website from the servers of the third-party provider. It is very important to know that if you create a CNAME record, any other records your domain may have will stop working, so you can't have both a CNAME record directing to one company and functioning email addresses with another. The CNAME record is always an alpha string, not a number, and frequently additional configuration may be necessary with the other provider.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

If you have a cloud web hosting plan from our company and you wish to set up a CNAME record, it'll take you a few clicks to get it done. You can access the DNS records for all domain names and subdomains hosted within your account from the Hepsia Control Panel included with each plan and adding a new record is as easy as clicking on a button, selecting the type, that will be CNAME in this case, inputting the actual record value and saving the change. If you have never added this sort of record before, you will find a Help section with a detailed video tutorial which you can watch, or you can simply contact us and we will aid you with this task. If you have created an Internet site via another company, you want to use a private URL for your webmail or you want to designate a subdomain for use with the services of a different provider, for example Google Apps, all it takes is setting up a CNAME record with a few mouse clicks inside your CP.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

The Hepsia hosting Control Panel, which comes with each of our semi-dedicated server accounts, will permit you to create a CNAME record effortlessly. When you want to create a private URL for your e-mails, to point a domain address to a subdomain within the account or to forward a domain name to another company and use some third-party service which they provide, it's not going to take you more than three clicks to set up such a record. All DNS records for the domain names and subdomains hosted in the semi-dedicated account are going to be listed in a separate section in the CP, so once you're there, all you will have to do will be to choose the type of the record that you want to create and the hostname for which you are creating it, and then enter the actual record text. For your convenience, you can see a short video in the CP concerning how to set up a CNAME record or you can follow the instructions in the help article, that is available in the DNS records section.
